The ERJ Animation

The report describes how renewable energy could be used to meet a new level of demand greatly reduced by applying energy efficient technologies that are already available around the world today, reducing and ultimately eliminating the need for imports. Six scenarios - variations of the basic scenario, scenario one - of how this demand might be covered are outlined in the report, all of which can provide 100% renewable energy for Japan with differing import shares. This animation shows the results of the simulation of scenario one described in the Energy Rich Japan report.

The animation shows the amount of electrical energy production from all sources used in the ERJ simulation throughout the year in a high temporal resolution. It also shows the energy consumption and the charge and discharge of energy by pumped storages. For more detailed information consult the explanation text in the animation and the Energy Rich Japan report.

The results can be shown for the whole of Japan or for the different regions in Japan, allowing insight into the installed capacities of the regions compared to their demand for energy and how regional import and export are combined to meet Japans total energy need.
